Does a welding table need to be all metal? Can i weld on a steel plate attached to a vise and get a ground?
You long for the top to be heat/fireproof. You can build the frame from wood and place a steel plate on top. You can also attach a metal rod

when i operated cnc vertical milling centers we would put these marsh pieces of steel with springs to hole them flat agains the vise to hold our material as we would mill
